DJ Motorola CEO: Says Co. Will Weather 'High-Tech Recession'

11 Apr 10:04

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Motorola Inc. (MOT) has been hit by a "high-tech
recession," its chairman and chief executive Christopher Galvin told CNBC
Wednesday.

"We are making ... a plan to work the company through this high-tech
recession and come out of it with really winning products and significant
profitability," he said.

Late Tuesday, the company reported a first-quarter loss of 9 cents a diluted
share, missing analysts' expectations of a loss of 7 cents a share.

The company has brought in a new team to address problems in its handset
unit, according to Galvin.

The chairman said he believes the company will be profitable and with
positive cash flow for the "overall year."
