To your point, I have been happy with a Nokia cellphone for some time and have seen little reason to upgrade. I did get a new phone when I switched from ATT to Verizon.
However, as the convergence of web and phone plays out I see a considerable upgrade cycle coming. The new Kyocera phone is an example (See Mossberg's review for additional data). As my annual provider contract expires next month, I will closely evaluate the option to add the integrated Palm-cell phone functionality to my communication arsenal. Kyocera's version will be followed by all manufacturers with significantly improved versions sporting improved cell-internet capability. My gut is that this sector will reap a reward in the 6 month+ timeframe.
