Network Appliance warns on quarterly sales, profit
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 11 (Reuters) - Computer storage maker Network Appliance Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP) warned on Wednesday that it would miss profit and sales targets this quarter as customers were delaying orders more than expected.

Fourth fiscal quarter revenue would fall 20-25 percent from the previous quarter's $288.4 million and Network Appliance would earn 1-3 cents per diluted share, on an operating basis, it said in a statement.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call had expected the company -- known for stand-alone storage units called network attached storage, or NAS -- to earn 10 cents per share, with estimates ranging from 7 to 12 cents.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said the direction of the global economy was uncertain and vowed to cut discretionary spending.
