OK, I suppose I'm not sure how typical your experience is. I do know several Americans (from Texas and California) who have had rather nastier lives. I'd also add that - bar one friend who left NI in the early 1970's, something of a special case - I don't even know anyone in the UK who knows (or at least has talked) of anyone they know having any of those experiences, and it would genuinely be a talking point here. I guess I'll grant you the years, though <g>
