LOL, never was any good at that word chit.

However (my view),

"extraordinary sympathy" expresses an understanding and sympathy with some ones loss.

While,

"deep regret" means (as I see it) "I shouldn't have done that" and willing to negotiate a deal where we don't spy on you guys so much.

The guys in China (and I mean the public just as much as the authorities) probably really do want to know which it is the USA is saying. And yeah, it could be a really big deal to them.

Hope the air crew come back safely and managed to dump anything that was really sensitive.
My belief is that... If the USA can play ball with China (not get pushed around and visa versa), we all will benefit.

Looks to me like Bush ain't the wash out that some predicted to date. Dealing with China is a real test.
