That statement is so strategically worded it could have been written by Clinton. Who says he doesn't have a legacy?

You and I know it wasn't an apology, but judging from some of the stuff I've seen around the web, not everybody sees it that way. Certain beltway blowhards see it as caving. I think he handled it just about right.

I think China does not understand the wisdom of the simple statement "Don't Mess with Texas". Bush is a product of Texas. Bush Sr. is an East Coaster. Very different animals.

Although my message isn't nearly as clever as Mr. Bush's, I hope it has some of the same "charm".

To Ambassador Yang Yiechi

Your government wants "America to adopt a serious attitude" about the Hainan Island situation. I wish to assure you that my attitude is profoundly serious.

I am incensed by the misdeeds of your government. Only rogue nations attack planes in international air space and aggressively take hostages after refusing to acknowledge an internationally recognized "mayday" call. Therefore, I will continue to boycott ALL merchandise originating from China until such a time as your current government is replaced with a more civilized one. My memory is very long. I will never forget.

Additionally, I encourage my elected representatives to take any and all economic actions against your government. I do not want money from the Free World supporting the current bellicose Chinese government.

Because the current Chinese government has proven incapable of obeying international laws, I now support adding guard planes to immediately protect our surveillance planes, which are in international waters, against Chinese aggression.

Your government must have serious problems within China to have taken such foolish actions. You can censor information from your citizens, but the Free World knows exactly what happens. China's government has lost face it can never recover.
