NBC test with contact lenses in... ouch.
I tried that once, against advice. Just once. I instantly found out why we were advised to wear glasses if in (or likely to be in) NBC kit... tear gas and an imperfect seal really did NOT combine well.

My technique was to hold my breath for as long as I could and hope I cleared the shots in time, before steaming up... didn't work well. Luckily it was a cool autumn day, andI got to wipe my lenses between firing trenches.
And, as in your case, I'm not sure they had a pass requirement in NBC above 100m... or maybe, since it was only the TA (reservists) and we were short of roster, they were being kind to me <g>
