Dear Evil Smilely person ~ hmm, there is much to react in oppostion to from the far right, in my mind. I think though I oppose them very seriously, that my thoughts are not a reaction but an indepenant creation. But not a group thing, like you say. I have never encountered a group I could join because I didn't agree with all the points, so makes no sense to join, and go against aspects. Not rational. Or honest. Maybe if I was a politician I would need to make those compromises, but I'm not. By choice. So as not to make compromises. Same reason I didn't join the armed forces. At the time I would have joined, I would have had to have lied. Not cool. Oh, well. Would have gotten to have played on the obstacle course and had steady pay for awhile.

As a leftist, and I do think I am, I believe in many things. None of which I would discuss with people who are subvervise and have displayed their dislike for you and me time and again. If that is dismissive, so be it. I'm leftist. I never claimed to be nice.

I bet there are thousands of different kinds of leftists. I bet they defy
description.

If a term is to have any meaning, it has to have at least some agreed definition. Otherwise it becomes a meaningless sound. Which maybe leftist has become.

The definitions you provided really don't say a thing about what the philosophy of political liberalism or the political left is. The nearest they come is "Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas;" but that also applies to some right wingers who aren't limited by established attitudes in some of their creative ways of imposing their beliefs, whereas the PC anti-1st Amendment crowd is as authoritarian as it's possible to get.

And as to liberal being defined as liberal giving, as one who has been a fundraiser for many NP groups over the years I can tell you that if you want to raise money, even for traditionally liberal social causes like food banks and battered womens shelters, for both of which I have raised money, you'll get a lot more out of right wingers than left wingers. Curious, but true in my experience.
One thing interesting: using the definition of liberal as
