Consumer sentiment falls to 87.8 By Rex Nutting Consumer sentiment continued to fall in early April. The University of Michigan's survey fell to 87.8 in April from 91.5 in March and well below the 90.5 expected. While the level is "inconsistent" with a recession, researchers said it makes a rebound later this year "less likely." Consumers were more pessimistic about both the current situation and the immediate future. Confidence among higher-income households plunged, due to falling wealth, while those at the bottom of the ladder were more worried about jobs than they were in March.
