Bob, I never thought of pm'ing myself. It's a neat idea. [not at all like talking to myself :)]

hi bob

welcome to the thread. and thank you for the kind words. if i'm keeping anybody informed around here, it's only because i'm trying so hard to keep myself informed! <g3>

"I Peoplemarked myself and set up lots of folders. I keep a window open so that I am able to PM myself and just copy and paste messages and links that I want to keep"

prety nifty idea, man. i bet some people adopt your method straight away.

keep in touch

:)

Hi, Bob. I've done that ever since Beta, but mainly for PM's. I click File on the right (next to remove) and I have file set up for PM's I want to save, labeled From __; and there's one where I've done what you mention, PM'd myself with posts I've wanted to keep.

Unfortunately, I've done that much too seldom. I think I've had the vague notion that the archives were there and would be forever. Like, yeah, I'd ever get around to going back years and making an anthology of my faves. (And if the rumors about SI's impending demise are correct, what will happen to the archives? And there are some wonderful writers on SI; it would be a loss, really.)

Hi Bob,

I've been doing exactly what you described for a long time, PM myself links of messages and organize them into folders, until recently. The problem is SI or the internet is just too slow to navigate the personal folders quickly, and the SI interface is too limited, for my liking. Couple that with the prodigious amount of posts I want to save from this thread, and a crisis was quickly mounting.

Now I save the links to messages I may want to review in an IE favorites folder, with sub folders arranged by common topics. It's very fast and easy to save a favorite to a specific location in Internet Explorer, and rename it for later identification.

Welcome to the thread.
