230K Block just sold in ATW fwiw....

... I don't like seeing a block like that cross here with Oil up on a "green" OSX day.

Either ATW has some bad news coming, or someone is dumping $10 M + pretty cheap offshore drilling stock into "10 Ft Tall & Bulletproof" territory for some reason ? - it can't be to lock in massive profits ? - they could have sold at $70 last year, or $50 weeks ago ?

(edit) - maybe they read Archie's IEA commentary (VBG)?

... food for thought; may be worth flipping ATW here if you caught it at $38ish the last couple of days ?

I am - it might create some sellers & you might be able to catch $35ish again if there's a large seller out there.

Awfully cheap in the mid $30's given 2002 est's & this is a great late cycle play as they'll have a couple of refurb'd rigs hitting the market with upgrades right at the top of the semi-dayrate cycle potentially...

The Intnl Semisub market needs to start cranking over this summer; DO RIG ATW not exactly lighting the world on fire here... the GOM is heavy gas drilling so MRL ESV NE RDC are showing their levered strength to domestic nat gas drilling; but if we see selling, or continued laggard weakness in RIG DO & ATW with their intnl deepwater semi-sub exposure - that doesn't bode well for Oil Major Cap Ex spending... something to think about in judging how the end of this cycle is going to play out.

PS... added some PAAS today - pretty cheap silver stock out there today.

In the spirit of out of context repartee I give you the Slider/Metaltrader gold dialogue.... any similarity to balance is unintentional and purely coincidental.

1. With opportunities like that offered in stocks like FCX - it's a no-brainer... stock will see 35-50% upside without ANY significant macro-event. This was a tremendous entry opportunity & I took it. (may 16, 2000 (the highest daily price for the remainder of the year 2000, close $11.50.)

2. In summary, when gold begins to rise again as a significant investment opportunity I think it will be more obvious than it is at present. (Metaltrader 5/18/00; FCX close $11.00)

3. happy to slowly and occasionally enhance gold holdings (Metaltrader 10/19/00, takes his first gold position in over ten years one day before all time XAU bottom!! whodathunkit)

4.Gold will explode...we may have to wait 2 years; (Slider, 4/12/01)
