I learned a very expensive lesson and it was Amazon's stock that taught it to me. Do not short a stock that has so much short interest one cannot find shares to short. I am as bearish as one can be on Amazon but shorting is likely not worth the risk.

One thing about shorting a stock:

a. if your broker has all the shares you want to short, DO NOT short the stock
b. if your broker does not have any share to short, keep trying, SHORT the stock

In essence you only want to short the stock if all the available shares for borrowing have been snapped by the money people. The smart money knows ahead of the little investors as to where the stock is heading.
