Mis, I went through this a couple years ago and concluded don't rely on maxpain. It is more than worthless especially when you rely on it. -ng- I even talked to a CBOE admin guy and he informed me that the open interest numbers are, more than not, all shagged up and they are just happy volume is usually correct. So that is a problem right there. Now this was a couple years ago so am not sure what the current situation is. There are all sorts of other problems, some of which you have noted. My word of caution is don't trade off it. -nfg-

Anyway, I seem to recall that the limit on a position was 10,000 contracts. Now someone big like MER might package together a few orders for different clients and it might show up as a bigger trade number, I suppose. But I think that would be rather unusual.
