The "Reagan wasn't responsible for the deficit" myth is a crock.

His own budget director (David Stockman) warned him that his budget would be a fiscal disaster. He didn't listen, and Stockman was correct.

All well and good, Thomas. But ya know what? Since it is accurate to say that the average voter doesn't really understand economics or government budgets, it doesn't really matter what goes on here. These exchanges are utterly meaningless in the big picture of how votes are gained or lost. It's not simply a matter of who can spin the numbers in the most favoreable way but who can deliver more and more timely sound bites.
