"The very fact that AOL is buying from RIMM tells you they have serious growth ahead.
"

Right, like no business that AOL has dealt with in the past has hit the skids. None of their strategic partners has ever gone belly up.

I think it's going to be a long long time before growth at any price comes back into fashion. BTW, they didn't earn .11 from operations. Those were 'pro forma' profits. I think 'pro forma' is latin, and it means 'earnings before expenses', or maybe it's 'earnings before enough expenses to make our PR headline look good'.

Regards,

Barb

RIMM had $0.08 loss for the quarter taking charges into account. Also guidance was lowered, RIM is a luxury item for most corporate workers, and a significant business expense at $499 for a pager purchase, plus recurring monthly fees. It's a etch-a-sketch instant messaging system, probably why Wall St. is so enamored with it.

Nortel has forced employees to give back RIMM pagers. Nokia, Sony, Kyocera (Palm phone), and Microsoft (Stinger OS. Pocket PC) have competing products entering the marketplace that offer combined voice and data. Moreover wireless modems allow full Internet access from laptops, notebooks, and PDAs offer a more compelling choice and a whole array of other feature besides e-mail.

Blackberry is a dumb terminal to access email. Can't truly surf the web on it or access info from servers.

Why carry just a email pager, when you can access your whole office and surf the web from a single device like a wireless notebook or PDA phone with data capabilities ?
