And the Pew study shows that the less educated you are, the more likely you are to be religious. Hmmmm. Ergo, dems are more likely to be religious, huh?

During the campaign, somebody (Neo?) posted demographics on the two parties which indicated that the less educated you are, the more likely you're a democrat.

I remember that one, and I remember the ensuing discussion of what could be legitimately inferred from that correlation. The most likely conclusion that I saw was that the actual variable was money: the educated tend to have more of it, and those who have more of it tend for obvious reasons of self-interest to the Republican side.

This conclusion is reinforced by looking at subgroups within the educated populace. If we look at a well-educated sector that does not tend to be overly endowed with the chips, for example teachers and academics, we find that they are almost universally democrats.
