Self-righteous is the label that the people who claim they don't like labels attach to people who try to live by the ethical standard held in common in this country up until about 30 years ago. This was Judea/Christian.

The fact that Christian and self-righteous are mutually exclusive terms confirms your contention that the meaning of the phrase self-righteous is lost on most people today.

I don't think you grasp the meaning of the term self- righteous.

You mean this definition is inapplicable?

self-righteous (adj.)
1. confident of one's own righteousness, esp.
when smugly moralistic and intolerant of the
opinions and behavior of others.

Supp. Note: syn sanctimonious, pharisaical.

Or did I miss the part where you showed tolerance for political beliefs inconsistent with orthodox Republican thought? I'm not really concerned about it, though.
