Well I would argue that the real serious long bets with margin debt is taken on NASDAQ stocks, not on NYSE.

Re short volume, you can go short up to the cash limit in the account and it is not margin. If someone is truly bearish I would think they would not be long anything, only short.

well nasdaq is still at 80X earnings, so it is still too high, and the shorts have done very well for six months....
