I was talking with my sister-in-law last night at dinner. She is an attorney and is currenly involved with a situation where a fellow who must be close to 70 years old himself had trading authority for a trust fund to take care of a 97-year-old mother and to benefit others in the family. He did a lot of questionable things, but worst of all, he took the entire $800,000 portfolio and put it into tech stocks last year. Whatever he did, it's down to about $120,000.

At this point the amount of money is hardly worth the legal fees to take control away from the guy, and he doesn't have the assets himself to make it worth trying to sue for the losses. So the mother will probably have to exhaust all remaing assets, go on medi-whatever, and become a ward of the State of Illinois.

Sorry--this is more suitable for Halloween than Easter.
