The bottom line is why spend $400-$500 and get something that does one thing OK, when you can spend $6-$700 and get something that does a bunch of stuff very well?

The folks that say special purpose "appliances" are going to replace the PC, I think are missing the major benefit that has made PC's go from near zero penetration ten years ago to over 50% of US households now. And that is versatility. Four years ago I didn't use my PC for banking, one year ago for storing and playing music, six years ago I didn't use it for trading stocks. What new and different functions will I use it for in 4 years?

An "Internet appliance" in a PC that is intentionally limited in it's current functions and future capabilities, why does anyone want that?
