So if you cool it adequately, that little diode need not ever report that it's too hot, n'est cet vrai?

Excerpts from an article today about notebooks:

New NEC with Transmeta, seems rather expensive for 600 MHz and a 10.4" display.

The new NEC models, slimmed-down machines weighing about 3.3 pounds, will be fitted with a TM 5600 chip running at 600MHz. They will also come configured with a 10.4-inch display, 128MB of RAM and a 20GB hard drive. Prices will start at $2,299, sources familiar with NEC's plans said.

AMD and OEMs under the gun:

Transmeta isn't the only chipmaker eyeing the notebook market. Advanced Micro Devices has begun shipping mobile Athlon chips to PC makers, and notebooks based on the chip are expected later this quarter.

Mobile Athlon chip: is that Palomino?

Scumbria, I'll be attending an open lecture on the Pentium 4 microarchitecture later today. One of the subtopics of the lecture is the P4's thermal management feature. I'll try and find out more about it.

As for Bert McComas, I've now lost all respect for him. Although his articles contain many valid points, it seems he is bent on presenting only skewed data to support his anti-Intel stances. I mean, come on, now he's quoting unscientific Web polls from AnandTech?
