"I have been suspended from posting on SI without explanation. Apparently my disagreement with the policies of George W Bush has led to a violation of my rights to free speech."

Scumbria

The only thing I can think about is that someone complained either about off topic posts about Bush, or he used some vulgur term in one of them and some one complained about that. I have read Scumbria's posts on quite a few threads and I never say anything that I thought deserved suspention or banning. SI's administrative actions in this regard seem to be kind of arbitrary to me. If he did really violate the terms of use, I can't see how he did it in such a major way as to deserve immediate banning. You would think a warning would come first, but maybe thats not how SI opearates. I don't think the ban was a good idea.

I just checked the terms of use. The only thing I can see that might have been violated is - "g) Posting improper or off-topic messages or posting more than twenty messages in six hours. " On this thread nothing is really off topic any more and almost any one of the regulars could be banned if posting any non AMD messages was considered a horrible offence. As for posting more than twenty messages in six hours. I know that I do that from time to time.

To make this on topic <g> - Max pain for AMD is 23.75.

Dave - RE: "Thread, Scumbria has been inexplicably banned from SI."

That's dumb... I wonder if they banned any other posters on the W. thread because there was more "ban-able" stuff posted to him than by him. Unless they just got tired of Scumbria being Scumbria. ;)

EDIT - I bet they claim he broke one of those small print items in the Terms and Policy agreement that are usually ignored...

Re: Scumbria has been inexplicably banned from SI

More likely, IMHO, is that he was banned because his posts made fun of Rambus. SI has previously had mysterious problems interfere with posters who don't toe the Rambus line.

And the rambus longs are a pretty fanatical group. The Bush guys have strong opinions, but their guy won, so there are probably limits to any hard feelings (and resulting complaints and/or lawsuits from them). The Rambus longs, OTOH, are hurting pretty bad at this point, were "very enthusiastic" even when things were going well for them, and may have kidnapped family members of SI's support staff or used other means of persuasion. It will be interesting to see if Carl (Bilow) gets banned too.

Thread, Scumbria has been inexplicably banned from SI. In an email he asked me to post the following ...
"I have been suspended from posting on SI without explanation. Apparently my disagreement with the policies of George W Bush has led to a violation of my rights to free speech.

Dave,

How very weird? I have been as vocal in my opposition to Bush as Scumbria and have received no complaints from SI (usually they warn you because they have received a complaint from another poster).

I am not sure what to make of this whole thing.
