sarmad, you are lapsing in logic...

>>WDC pre-announced more revenue ($530m vs $500m expected) and more unit sales than expected.<<

the comparison should not be to "expected." it should be to last year. if unit sales are up yoy, then, and only then, does it indicate that unit sales may be up this year.

>>So pc unit sales will be up y/y and sequentially.<<

as explained above, this does not rationally follow given the limited information you have provided. even if unit drive sales are up, that doesn't mean, of necessity, that their is sell through to customers since most of the drive company's sales go to the box clampers who may be building inventory. i do not know this. for all i know, unit sales my be up all around. but the information you provide as "proof" is anything but.

>>And there isn't even an inventory glut at this time<<

i'm not convinced of this. i don't deny it, but i'm not convinced. we shall see, though.

China buys many millions of pc's (20m ?). And the number is growing. And to underscore the good prospects, the first Q is generally the slowest Q of the year. And there isn't even an inventory glut at this time.

I posted a report on the New Economy thread about the demand for PCs from the Arab countries. It apparently is really high.
