Your country'your country's role is diminished. Other countries (both friendly
and hostile) will start pin pricking with gay abandon.
All this started because Bush Team stepped up the surveillance to new heights.

The surveillance isn't going away. Maybe the next flight will be escorted. Also now it is much more likely that we will sell advanced weapons to Taiwan.
