I don't believe that seismic is the wrong niche at this stage of the rebound. Keep in mind that if one had loaded up on this subsector in March of 99, it would seem to me that the wait would be excruciating. Especially when looking at the other subsectors in the patch that have soared during the interim (drillers, E+Ps, well services).

Likewise, I would be concerned about buying the contract manufacturers in the tech sector at this stage. It seems to me that there are other subsecters that not only offer better current fundamentals but also offer greater potential growth in the immediate future (6 mos to 18mos).

Cutting edge technology is still in demand and, imo, will continue to be even during a protracted recession. Innovation still commands a premium and buying into companies that create new products or platforms can be a rewarding strategy. Buying into any company simply because it's fallen X% (and therefore it MUST be cheap-regardless of fundamentals) is not a sound idea, unless you are trying to play DCB or some other technical type of rebound.
