let me rephrase what I thought I read.....the combination of NT and 5.5 did not appear to be a combo that they had a "fix" for...

that's what I get for paying good money but taking the Evelyn Wood Speed Eating course instead of the SPeed Reading course...

anyway, I think I figured it out...with a little help from Compaq...since, if there was something "wrong" with this thing I wanted to start a "trail", I called the support folks and it was suggested that I up the "Colors" from 256 to the Max...what ever that was...and so far in the last day and a half, I've not had a color fade.

I saved the site you gave and will remember to give it a try if I run into any other problems.

I will give Compaq credit, they wanted to fix this thing promptly.....which is a change from when I had a laptop of their make years ago.
