D, The consumer always pull the economy out of a slow down. Business then reacts to increased demand. You're right, energy costs are a drag on the consumer. The majority of the costs though are being forced onto businesses. You see, I'm only one vote. I'll evenually have to pass it on to consumers via pricing, sales will drop, and I'll lay some people off. This is what Jimbobway is eluding to. Unfortunately, Federal, state, and local governments are sucking more money than ever out of folks wallets as well and they don't seem inclined, presently, to give any of it back. Most of my energy stocks have held up fairly well.
