We're in the foothills of Placer County, Northern California.

Yes, we have some barn owls about here also, mostly heard at night. The Great Horned owl is also a resident that is rarely seen though I know his call.

The closest thing in flight for us is the bat that roosts over our front door most of the warm nights of the year. When the bugs are out, it cruises in wide circles in the twighlight sweeping them up for us. I always look up instinctively when exiting in the dark often finding it hanging head down with eyes sparkling watching me from 3 feet above.
