It may be worse than you think, 3G will not happen according to Ed (never wrong) Snyder.

Wireless Pipe Dream
By Cory Johnson
Issue Date: Apr 23 2001

Executives in the wireless industry like to talk about the next generation of networks. But no one wants to be the first to build it.

But at The Standard's Roam wireless conference last week, there was clear pessimism over whether 3G will happen anytime soon. "The carriers are saying it could happen in Europe within the next two years," says Ed Snyder, a telecom analyst at J.P. Morgan H&Q. Snyder compares 3G to Motorola's greatest disaster - satellite phone-system Iridium. "It's not going to happen. We think of 3G as Iridium-light."

What good is owning Qualcomm stock if you can't share in Qualcomm's profits? They don't even have share repurchases. Are you expecting some other company to take them over at some point and pay you a nice premium for their shares. What is the point in owning stock in a company if you get nothing in return?

Im cracking up, you can't be serious. I assume you are joking, but if you aren't. 1) the goal with growth stocks is price appreciation of the stock, not yearly income. 2) One can sell shares at any point, thus reaping the returns of what ever dividends they didn't pay, plus a bonus of only paying long term cap gains if you've held it long enough. 4) dividends are taxed at whatever bracket you're in.

Holy smoke Puck! Go ask any financial guy. GEEZ Louise.
