Just to let you know, that while many snowmobiliers owners fit your characterization, many do not. Please don't tar all with the same brush. That's like stating all environmentalists are aging hippies!!..)) As far as the noise level, it's true they are very loud. However, this winter, i had an opportunity to se a new 4-stroke version that is in the prototype stage. It uses a small car motor developed in Japan for use in the mini cars that are available . It is extremely quiet, has the emissions of a small car, and while it doesn't have the power of a 2-stroke motor of the same size, you will see the manufacturers trying to get these to market soon. They want them available specifically to address the desire of some to continue use of snowmobiles in area like the national parks.
