WASHINGTON (AP) — After a long and bitter standoff with the American people, President Bush approved language saying he was "very sorry" for stealing the 2000 presidential election, and for the wholesale perversion of the nation's electoral process.

In a letter released by the White House today, Bush expressed regret over the loss of core democratic principles and ascending to the White House without proper clearance from voters.
