will focus on guidance instead.

Hey Pat, you think TI will have positive guidance? ADI (which I'm long) had guidance which the street interpreted as positive. LOL. Did you you read that release? Hardly what I would call positive. Something like they see a bottoming next quarter, and the possibility of revs growing again in 4Q. Come on. Sounds more like "it can't get any worse" guidance to me.

I would expect the same from TI. The fickle street might decide that the same words mean doom. In any event, I was happy to see ADI up over 40 again.

What kind of guidance are you expecting from JDSU? Also, do you have any insight into CORV? Are the new customers that were rumored awhile back for real? No warning from them yet, so I still have my fingers crossed.

Small long positions in both CORV and JDSU. As you know, I'm still largely a non-believer in any near term recovery, and think I will be averaging down on all three of these names. But, I had to dip my toe in at some point, I guess. Must admit that cash has been comfy these past months, though.

pat,

I have reasons to speculate that TI may not be a spoiler in the market next week.

Historically TXN was traded very closely with NOK, being one of the latter's major suppliers. Last week, RFMD (another NOK supplier for rf enhancement) surged big time because of alleged positive trending of NOK's business/new products.

Thus, I think TXN's numbers may be shabby, but the tone of company's outlook may be okay.

Have a nice weekend,
Ibexx

Pat and all-- just a great column from Dave Barry on the market/investment analysts. I don't know if I can get this in as a link, but the url is www.miami.com/herald/special.
Then look under the 'columnists' section for Dave Barry.
The best thing about the humor is that he's merely describing what has really happened ("I'm not making this up.") Very entertaining, and a great perspective restorer and antidote to the temptation to take any 'expert' too seriously. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
