Well, if any strategist or VC firm can pick winners 100% of the time, let me know who they are. I'd like to know that person or firm, because they probably have supernatural powers and can tell the future. It's just expected that firms will make mistakes in acquisitions. It's acceptable though, because the one that pans out makes up the the 9 out of 10 that don't. That's the VC business folks. It's a proven model that works over time.

Like you, I'd like to see quantitative evidence of greatness, as opposed to lack of evidence of incompetence.

It's called betting with the law of averages: folks are mediocre until they prove otherwise.

Even then, a few successes or a few failures... it's hard to call it either way. But the onus of responsibility is upon those who would call him great to substantiate that claim. Failing that, the claim is just so much more hot air. And until then, the dude would be average... by definition.

Average amongst some high caliber peers mind you.
