greenlaw4-7: Two comments on your post. First, in 1995, semiconductor industry was entirely reliant on the PC sector. Today, chips are ubiquitous and have many more markets and uses in which they are sold into. The prolonged recovery (2-3 years) for chips to recovery in past down cycles is more likely to be truncated and shortened, for this reason.

Second, the market really is a forward looking mechanism and will begin moving up 6-9 months before the actual bottom is reached. Basing all of your investing decisions on what earnings are doing "right this minute" will put you well behind the curve.
