People start off wanting to do their best at work. They get messed around. They realize it is somewhat pointless to do this. They realize "regulating" their own output is healthy. They see others give their lives to corporations only to get booted in middle age.

Possibly the problem is most business today is large corporations without any personal concern for the employee too. Maybe the equity markets are not good for established type industries. Good people that own good small firms treat their employees with a lot of respect.

do you read dilbert ?

No. I do not even take enough time to look through the local paper to see what my competitors are advertising.
