American spirit Re..If liberal means caring about the environment and not liking being mugged by the Texas fat cats that's what you can call me and I'm proud of it, however I'm much more conservative fiscally that any of these fast-buck con-artists and conservative should equal conservation<<<<<<<<<

If you really were in favor of conservation you also would be in favor of higher prices, which will push conservation and alternate fuels far faster than any environmentalist agenda. You just seem to be against GW because he is republican.

The S+L debacle cost us 600 billion thanks to Reagan's deregulation gang. <<<<<

Once again, Japan is an example of what happens when you don't bail out the banks and S + L. The bailout at 600 billion is cheap compared to the cost of not doing anything.

But who's going to police the energy business in the B-C Administration. <<<<

That is a good question. The real point is, no one will care if we can get out of this energy mess we are in, with miminal disruption to the environment. I would predict a nuclear comeback, as nuclear is far safer environmentally overall. We can control radiation, but we can't control CO2 and acid rain. A lot of the alternate fuels require electricity also. I also hope the energy commission comes up with a TVA type program to update coal plants, (as new coal plants can reduce pollution by 70 percent over a 30 yr old coal plant); and the new powderized fluid beds can be 30% more efficient.. We need to save the natural gas for home heating needs, because higher natural gas prices will force many homeowners to burn wood or go back to oil, which will increase pollution far more than any coal plant with todays modern scrubbers produce. We need both conservation, plus new energy policies.
