It is impossible (at least for me) not to label people internally for convenience. I've had people tell me all sorts of things about themselves, and then by their actions totally contradict what they've told me. I don't think we can let people characterize themselves by words alone, they also tell us what they are by how they act. For example if I murder someone in front of you (clearly taking a life unlawfully and without justification) but I stand up loudly and proclaim to you that I am NOT a murderer, I think you would be perfectly justified in going with your perception that I was a murderer.

I agree that it's iffy to choose someone's label for them. That's why I commented that if someone declares they aren't, you really shouldn't argue that they are.
