i am not sure what his performance has to do with what he says in the article (pls. don't explain as it's not important 2 mee).
granted, this dreyfus guy was not making an argument so much as an observation, but as we look to the future following a year of astounding losses for tech stocks, it is good sometimes to be reminded of the importance of capital preservation in investing.

that is why i like having a low buy target on a stock like cisco. if i can buy the stock at my target of $6, i feel i will have a good margin of safety for a long-term holding, as well as a reasonable cost basis for future capital appreciation. it may take a couple years to reach my target, or it may never go there. no biggie. there are other fish in the sea. but it is a biggie to have standards to protect one's capital.
