You know I think we are all free to feel people are "tarnished" in whatever respect we want to. Many religious people feel that all people are "tarnished" by original sin. Many people who are against abortion feel that people who do abortions or people who have abortions are murderers. Many people who are members of organized religions feel people who are not a member of theirs are "bad". Edit- and let's not forget people who demonize all members of a politcal party! And call liberals or conservatives nasty names. All of these ways of thinking are personal ways of identifying, grouping, and "tarnishing" other people. We all group people in negative and positive ways based on what we "like" or what we think is "right". Human beings generalize, it's one of our most endearing traits.

The difference I think we both find important is the difference between thought and action. I don't care if people have tolerant thoughts in their head. But I do care how they act. If my neighbor wants to think badly of me because I don't attend church more power to her. I hope it makes her happy. But if she chooses to act out in ways that begin to interfere with my freedom and happiness because I don't attend church, she hasn't the right to do that.
