4.0 Version 2001 is the version of NSW i'm running.... Last night when I defragged on Safe Mode, twice when I was checking in to see how things were going, I saw the message, even on Safe Mode, "Drive contents changed. Restarting. Reading drive information." I wonder if this is a clue to the cause, even though it did complete the defrag (I'm 2% defragmented now, unless you count personality deterioration, which of course brings it up to the high nineties!) bosquedog's command idea looks like a good thing to try since it solved someone else's similar problem, but i fear it may involve typing commands into DOS. Ewwwww. No question i'm learning a lot. The upside.
