There is some source that the large brokerages use the lists obsolete and worthless securities.

You are correct that bankrupt companies are NOT worthless companies. If they were worthless, they'd not waste the time and effort of going to bankruptcy court!

You might ask your broker if the stock is worthless, some brokers give you a written statement that as of xx/xx/xx the stock you hold in your account has no value.
