hi e "Version 2001....I think this isn't the good news i hoped for" <g> to the extent that the ms kb article said version 2000 is not compatible, yes, this isn't the good news. but that's okay. we are forever gaining on this thing. i view every eliminated possibility as a step in the right direction. tc just posted about a possibility involving task scheduler causing two different disk defraggers to try to run at once. you should check it out when you have time. "Before i go to bed i'll defrag on Safe Mode again" this will often cause you to sleep well and have pleasant dreams :) mark
