Talisman's Sudan ops scrutinised
Upstream, April 10

Canada's Talisman Energy today released its first independently verified report into corporate ethics and responsibility, focusing on the company's operations in war-torn Sudan.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Report was compiled in compliance with the International Code of Ethics for Canadian Business, which Talisman adopted in December 1999.

The report was developed with the assistance of experts in business ethics and social auditing, said the company. It evaluates Talisman's progress towards achieving objectives in the areas of human rights, community participation, employee rights, ethical business conduct and health, safety and environment, added Talisman.

The verification process included site visits to Khartoum, the concession area, a village along the pipeline and interviews with non-governmental organisations in Nairobi that operate in southern Sudan.

"We hope this report will be received as an honest effort to respond to concerns about our investment in Sudan," said Talisman president and chief executive Jim Buckee.
