RE:"Actually, to get 2 GB you need either 1 GB DIMMs or 4 DIMM slots, neither of which is available at this time in DDR."
True but.
1 gig pc133 is available and will work in those motherboards..

Joe, Re: 2GB DDR

I thought some of the early boards provided four slots but you had to use registered DIMMS? I haven't been watching this segment of the market too much. And don't some DDR boards provide three slots? This should only be an issue for a few as I plan to start most systems with 256MB DIMMS and doubt they will ever need more than that during their useful life. You are correct that users seem to limited by #DIMM-slots and no 1GB modules (yet).

Per Tomshardware both the AMD760 and ViaKT266 chipsets allow for up to 2GB but the former allows 4 DIMM slots and the latter only 2. AliMagic limited to 1GB with up to 4 slots; Via KT133A up to 1.54GB w/4 slots. tomshardware.com

However, the mobo must have the slots!
AMD760 based (from same article above): Asus A7M266, Biostar M7MIA, Gigabyte GA-7DX all have only 2 slots.

Another Tom's article (http://www.tomshardware.com/mainboard/01q2/010409/kt266-02.html)
Shows 2 slots for MSI K7T266 (Via 266 based) but states the 3-slot K7T266 Pro will handle up to 3 GB (which is more than previously reported max for chipset).

Ace's review of the MSI K7T266 seems to indicate that ViaKT266 supports up to 4GB but there are only 3 slots on this board. aceshardware.com

I believe the FIC AD11 has 3 DIMM slots (AMD760). However, in my quick search for a 4 DIMM-slot DDR board I couldn't find one.

On the PC133 front, Crucial does offer 512MB for $396 and 1024MB for only $1692 of the Reg & ECC variety.
