JohnG & Dave, I think it is safe to assume that there are many commercial entities, branches of government, regardless in what country you live in, that would like to know where you are. The paranoid part of me reads the 911 legislation that way. All networks are able to triangulate your position. If you add a GPS it will be somewhat more precise. I've always understood this capability as a cellphone equivalent of "doubleclick" especially when cellphone saturation is very high - this information can (and therefore will?) be processed and sold. Scary but real. A benign use may be automatic road traffic analysis (speed, traffic direction) but there must be many more malign uses also.
