I just heard what is apparently an ancient conspiracy theory in New York, that they froze the Knicks' envelope in the 1985 draft lottery so that Stern could pick it out, so that the Ewing would end up in the media capital of the country. ROFLMAO!

Another version:

In his book, "A Good Man," esteemed basketball guru Pete Newell, who has tentacles to most aspects of the NBA, writes: "I've seen concrete evidence that there was a dog-eared envelope taken by the Knicks to get Patrick Ewing, lending the strong suggestion that (the lottery) was rigged in their favor."
