"Intel said last month that ... it would cut 5,000 jobs" (from the that bloomberg article) "Additionally, the company expects to reduce headcount by approximately 5,000 people over the next 9 months predominantly through attrition" ( intc.com ) I think this is an open and shut case. The headcount reduction is nothing new, and it's not actual firing or layoffs per se. Mind you, this doesn't mean we could see newer layoff/firing announcements in the future; I'm just talking about the specific situation at hand here.     -JC
