My confidence varies from day to day. This is not looking good for techs. I think overall what is failing is the general concept that if a company can capture enough market share they can finally charge enough to make a profit. Utilities could do that in the past and the phone companies.
But without growth in economies and income it can't work.
I think the Telcos have been subsidizing companies like Nok, Ericy and Phg in the interest of getting people signed up for wireless service. Also all those free ISP's, e-mail, factory rebates
Aol a good example of trying to do it and they have a chance
EEEE a good example of one that never had a chance.
There are huge excesses needed to be wrung out of tech business. All those chip foundries in Taiwan, Asia.
To grow fast, they overpaid for the the expensive silicon factories and test gear. Probably owe vast sums.
If US don't buy their products, their people will not have enough to buy other companies finished goods.
Managers who have come up thru the ranks know how to wring out inefficiencies throughout the whole production process, and there are not enough of those today.
On the positive side, people will pay for the best golf clubs, boats, cars, houses, home furnishings.
