Telcoms, this from Business Week, a negative article on dominoes falling amongst little telcom cos. but remember I have harped on VZ and SBC as the eventual victors?
Well look at this quote.
"Several experts worry that the Baby Bells, especially SBC Communications Inc. and Verizon Communications, could wind up controlling virtually all of the consumer market and the vast majority of the business market. "God knows America is not getting the competition promised under the Telecom Act," says William Kennard, the former Federal Communications Commission chairman."

If true as I suspect it will be, these two companies will come out of the slump owning the vast majority of the info superhighway real estate. Esp if their take over WCOM and FON which is not beyond the realm of possibility. Eventually then these are your giants in control, along with AOL-TW of the next generation broadband to the home. T's role could also be large as they control cable. But movie-downloads over the phonelines are what VZ is planning now and that could challenge cable dominance. Also at PE's from 12-17 there's not exactly a lot of risk here. And you get your dividend of about 3%. Just a thought for the longer-term investor who wants to sleep well at night.
