Well, do you think belief and faith are fine if they helps people lead worse lives?. Again, worse by whose standards? What gives you the right to judge what's good and bad for other people. Pretty arrogant of you, I would say. And just because you think someone is a "megalomaniac charlatan" doesn't mean they are. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. But why don't you stop being so judgmental and allow that maybe other people have the right to find their own ways to happiness even if they aren't your ways? Or maybe you think we all voted you Emperor of the Universe?
